Hi. I wonder if anyone has the answer to this, my plug and play 4 GB Zenstone Plus with built-in speaker, for no apparent reason, has decided to stop working with my laptop. It was fine one day when I was copying a new selection of music over to it from my 1 TB external WD Mybook SE hard drive, next day when I plug it in to its normal place, lefthand USB port... poof! Won't even charge up if the battery's flat, which I suspected it was when it wouldn't turn on when I pressed either the button on the side or the power button in the centre. I thought I had disabled it by accident from the system tray, but when I went in to device manager just now and checked USB composite devices, everything seemed to be all right. It picked up two devices, possibly the Zenstone or the card reader, but I didn't hear windows blip blip at me when I plugged the Zenstone in to any of the 4 USB ports on this laptop. I'm hoping this laptop hasn't just killed a 2nd Zenstone in 9 months or so, lol. Could anybody throw some light on this problem?

In situations where there could be a number of things that have gone wrong like this, you just have to do some troubleshooting.

1: does the player show up in another computer? You don't need speech, just put it in and see if windows makes the sound.
2: do other devices on the laptop work?

Obviously if no other devices on the laptop work its a driver or mobo issue where as if the player doesn't show on another computer it will be the player.

Haven't tried it in another computer yet, but I'm thinking it is probably the player since it doesn't charge on a USB mains charger either, although that's showing some wear and tear inside where the USB slot's all loose about itself, so if all else has failed by the time I've replaced the USB charger, I reckon the MP3 player is no more.

I've tought about getting one of those for times when i don't feel like carrying my stream around with me, but if it's not going to work well with Windows Vista computers, or die in such a short period of time, I'd better not since both of my computers use that operating system.

They work good. Also if one dies in 9 months you can get it replaced free. Shouldn't be dying so soon.

I noticed that you said your charging it from a mains charger some of the time; are you sure that the charger isn't giving the player to much power and frying it's internals?
